International Professional Member Eligibility Requirements

Recognised for the training skills you have specific to Play Therapy as a qualified Mental Health professional while residing and practising. You are also demonstrating to employers, professional colleagues, parents, clients and carers that you abide by the professional standards and Best Practice Guidelines in play therapy required by APTA and are progressing toward completion of your Clinical Membership and registration as a APTA Play Therapist.

Applicants must meet minimum requirements relating to:

  1. Mental Health Qualification (minimum Bachelor level)
  2. Belonging to a Registering body relevant to your mental health qualification
  3. Working with Children Check or Police Clearance equivalent to residing country
  4. 150 hours of training in play therapy/expressive therapy (100 hours min face to face)
  5. Professional Indemnity Insurance
  6. 300 hours of clinical practice
  7. 50 hours of clinical supervision (maximum of 10 hours group supervision)
