Australian Play Therapists Association
Maintaining professional standards within the therapeutic community
Welcome to the APTA. We are a peak professional association of registered Play Therapists in Australia.
Our goal is to provide support, resources, information, professional development and networking among our members and to the interested general public.
Play therapy is an effective technique used in child counselling or psychotherapy to assist children with their emotional development. It is a globally recognised and established method of working with children, formed from the psychodynamic and humanist traditions.
APTA registered Play Therapists all have a tertiary level qualification in a mental health field (psychology, social work, counselling, psychotherapy, occupational therapy) and additional intensive training in play therapy foundational skills, theory, knowledge and practice. They also engage in ongoing professional development and supervision in play therapy.
